The Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT) launched its TIFT Catch a Redfish Educational Scholarship (CARES) at our 74th event July 31-Aug. 4.
The year long program is open to all junior anglers who registered in TIFT this year and who are 16 years of age or younger. Tagged redfish were released in the Laguna Madre Bay and any junior angler who catches one of the first five tagged fish will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Fishing for the event opened Aug. 2, 2013 and will continue through July 6, 2014. Any junior angler registered in the 74th TIFT is automatically registered in the TIFT CARES.
“The purpose of this new program is to invest in the future of TIFT,” says TIFT President Charles Kennedy, Jr. “We feel this is a wonderful complement to our existing annual scholarship program and encourages the family fishing experiences that have kept our tournament growing. We also want to remind anyone adult or non-registered person who catches one of these tagged redfish to release it and give our TIFT junior anglers another chance at a $10,000 scholarship!”
