The daughter of Bryan and Mary Ray of Laguna Vista, Alexa is currently a junior at the University of Texas at Austin, double majoring in Radio-Television Film and Sociology. She is a member of the Delta Kappa Alpha Professional Co-Ed Cinema Fraternity, dedicated to fostering lifelong character and collaborative and creative storytelling. She is also a part of the Spark Magazine staff, a lifestyle and fashion publication at UT. Outside of school, she has volunteered in fundraising for both the Serious Fun Children’s Network and the Safe Place Domestic Violence Shelter. Because of her selection as the 77th TIFT Hostess, Alexa will receive a $2000 scholarship toward her studies at the University of Texas.
If anyone could be described as born for the role of TIFT Hostess, it is Alexa. August 2, 1995, her father, Bryan Ray, a local fishing charter captain, registered his one-day-old baby girl for the tournament, making her the youngest TIFT entrant in the long history of the event. Since then, she has participated in every tournament, as both an angler and a volunteer at Playday and registration or working the docks at weigh-in. In the Ray family, TIFT is not just a tournament. It is tantamount to a holiday–one of the most important times of the year!
The TIFT board of directors knows Alexa’s energy and enthusiasm will be evident throughout the 77th annual fishing tournament, which will be held August 3-7 on South Padre Island and in Port Isabel.
