The 76th Texas International Fishing Tournament closed with an awards presentation on Sunday, August 2nd. FERDIE BURKET of Progreso, Texas, aboard the Reel Therapy, took home the TIFT Grand Champion Bay Fisherman award with a total of 27.4 points. The Grand Champion Bay Fisherman is awarded to anglers with the highest point totals of all three eligible species (trout, redfish and flounder) for two days of fishing.
JAMES S. BURROUS of Austin, Texas, aboard the Portafino, is the Texas Grand Champion with a total of 2,000 points. James S. Burrous and his team also took home the Boatman Award (John Brennan), Team Trophy (Portafino) and 1st Place in Catch & Release. The Texas Grand Champion is awarded to the angler with the highest point total for two days of fishing. Angler must have weighed in a billfish or mako shar or tagged and released a billfish or tarpon. If these qualifications have not been met, the Grand Champion will be the angler with the most offshore points.
TIFT2015 had nearly 1300 registered anglers and over 400 boats participating. The TIFT Executive and Advisory Boards and Tournament Director Kristi Collier, would like to thank all the participants and sponsors for making the 76th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament a very exciting and successful event! To date TIFT’s scholarship program has awarded 172 scholarships valued over $300,000, thanks to the generosity of TIFT’s sponsors and supporters!
